Trumpet lessons in Hannover and online
You learn the trumpet in order to make music. That is why music is at the centre of my lessons – along with everything that goes with it: a beautiful, flexible sound, secure technique, alert ears and the joy of playing together. I also teach jazz harmony, ear training and rhythm to players of every other instrument.

lessons
Trumpet – jazz and classical
Sound, embouchure, breathing and technique, studies and repertoire – from first steps to advanced playing, with pieces you actually want to play.
Jazz harmony, ear training and rhythm
For all instruments, not just trumpet: hearing and understanding chords, scales and voicings, solid time and rhythm, analysing tunes – for pianists, saxophonists, guitarists, singers and anyone who wants to understand jazz more deeply.
Jazz improvisation
Phrasing, transcribing and developing your own lines – on the trumpet or on any other instrument.
Lead trumpet and big band playing
Range, endurance and sound in the section, phrasing and style from swing to funk – from the everyday practice of a lead trumpeter.
Audition preparation
Focused preparation for entrance exams – in jazz for all instruments, in classical music for trumpet: audition pieces, theory, ear training and playing under exam conditions.
Workshops and sectionals
For big bands, school and youth ensembles, wind bands and company big bands: lead trumpet, section playing, improvisation, breathing and brass methodology.
how I teach
Alongside secure technique and a flexible sound, ear training, harmony and general musicianship are a fixed part of my lessons. Just as important to me is developing an artistic personality: the rules of the stage, treating music as a living art – and, above all, joy.
I connect technique with expression and theory with practice. Every lesson is shaped by where you are and where you want to go: some want to hit the high notes securely in their big band, others want to play their first solo, others again are preparing for an audition.

online with jamulus
For online lessons I use Jamulus, free software for making music together in real time. Unlike Zoom or Skype, latency is low enough for us to really play together – duets, accompaniment, rhythm training. I run my own server for it.
From home · flexible times · high audio quality · from anywhere · recording on request
Jamulus guide and equipment
What you need
- A fast internet connection, ideally fibre
- A network cable – Jamulus does not work reliably over Wi-Fi
- Headphones, to avoid feedback
- An audio interface (recommended) and a microphone – both sound far better than the ones built into a laptop
Installation
Jamulus is free for Windows, macOS and Linux at jamulus.io. On Windows, choose the ASIO4ALL driver if your audio interface does not come with its own ASIO driver.
Connecting
In Jamulus, choose “Connect” and enter this server address: clausloehr.de or 87.106.183.172:22124
The golden rule: listen only to the sound from Jamulus in your headphones and switch off your audio interface’s “direct monitoring”. That is the only way we play truly in sync.

That depends on length and frequency. Send me a short note about what you are looking for and I will make you an offer.
Do you come to ensembles?
Happily – for sectionals, one-day workshops or rehearsal weekends with big bands, schools, wind bands and company big bands. We agree on the content beforehand.
